#47 Tuesday’s with David - “Misty Pool”

David’s Insight on “Misty Pool”

The mystical Moeraki Boulders take careful planning to capture properly, most importantly the time of low tide.Misty Pool was captured using the Frame Averaging feature with the Phase One IQ4 150 MP and a Rodenstock 138mm, f6.5 prototype lens. As you can see from the still below, the 1/3 s exposure averaged over about two minutes smooths out the waves. Conditions change rapidly on the water and you have to be ready to move and shoot quickly. As the tide was receding, I could get closer to this boulder with the water pooling in it’s bowl. The gritty detail that this medium format system captures is really impressive.
