David’s Insight on “Village Elder"

This 95-year-old woman was the oldest of the village and the last to follow the tradition of the lotus feet. This Chinese tradition viewed small feet as beautiful, leading young girls ages 5-6 to bind their feet to appear refined. The process literally involved breaking the toes and binding them flat against the sole to make a triangle shape.Your marriage prospects were dim if your foot grew longer than 4 inches.
