#16 Tuesday’s with David - “Gyana Mudra”

David’s Insight on “Gyana Mudra

Mudra is a symbolic hand gesture used in Hindu and Buddhist ceremonies as well as the practice of yoga. Gyan is the Sanskrit word for “knowledge” or “wisdom”. The Gyan Mudra is the “Mudra of Knowledge” and is said to stimulate the root chakra to ease depression. Often used in meditation, this hand gesture is said to create an energetic seal which encourages the flow of prana or vital life force. This colorful Hindu devotee forms this mystic position of the thumb and index finger with both hands as he sits amongst the outbuildings of the Pashupati Area Shiva Temple, a working temple that is also an UNESCO World Heritage site in Kathamandu, Nepal.
