#21 Tuesday's with David - "Ripple"

David’s Insight on “Ripple”

Just outside of Hoi An, Vietnam you’ll find traditional rice fields. These fields are farmed by hand, requiring workers to stoop low to reach the plants. It is labor-intensive working with the tiny seeds. Each plant puts out several stalks with a seed head that has about 300 grains of rice. Curious about my camera, this farmer paused. You can see the hint of a smile below her mask. The subtle ripple stemming from her leg movements as well as the traditional leaf hat, gloves, boots and rows of visible rice plants give the portrait its authenticity. One of her friends tried to feed me lunch! The generosity of the Vietnamese people is genuine.
