#33 Tuesday’s with David - “Appraisal”

Part of the “Matriarch” Series, this unposed street portrait was captured on the back streets of Colombo, Sri Lanka in early 2020.Always seeking out the spaces and places where “real” life is lived, this friendly neighborhood welcomed us with both apprehension and interest. The older folks were home as the children returned from school. Capturing people outside their homes helps to frame the story.It is quiet off the beaten track and lends itself well to shooting medium format where one must engage with the subject. As shown below, turning the camera around to share the moment, people are genuinely pleased with the resulting image.
