David’s Insight on “Horseshoe Bend”
Located just outside of Page, Arizona, Horseshoe Bend is named from the formation that the flow of the Colorado River has carved out of the surrounding rock of Glen Canyon. Located just 5 miles downstream from Lake Powell, the long-standing drought of this area is taking its toll. Lake Powell is at unimaginable lows, threatening the water supply of millions of people and curbing water sports in the area. This capture is the result of 2 images stitched taken with the IQ4 150mp XT camera with a Rodenstock 4.0/32mm Lens creating a panoramic final image.I visited the site two consecutive stormy evenings. The thick cloud cover, gusting winds and blowing sand didn’t dampen my spirits or this awe-inspiring scene. The wind died briefly as the sky caught fire and the clouds reflected the light. The BTS photos below are from the evening before with heavy cloud cover and dull light showing scale.
